Adjunct Professor Heidi Piili, D.Sc.(Tech.) is working as senior research scientist in research group of Digital Manufacturing and Surface Engineering (DMS) of Mechanical Engineering at University of Turku. She started in this position 8/2021. Piili is also working as Affiliated Researcher in University West, Trollhättan, Sweden. She is doing academic and industrial R&D (national and international) in field of additive manufacturing (i.e. 3D printing) of metals and polymers, laser materials processing, camera and sensor based quality assurance and process control and novel industrial applications of additive manufacturing. She also educates B.Sc., M.Sc. and D.Sc students and trains industrial partners in same field of science. Piili is also doing supervising of B.Sc., M.Sc. and D.Sc. theses.
Piili is docent (adjunct professor ) in UTU in field of "Laser beam and material interaction in laser based additive manufacturing", LUT University in field of "Monitoring of additive manufacturing of metallic materials" and in Oulu University in field of "Industrial Applications of Laser Materials Processing and Additive Manufacturing". Piili completed her seocnd doctoral thesis entitled as "A conceptual, holistic framework to overcome limitations and constraints of design in laser-based powder bed fusion: Case novel separation and purification units" in 12/23.
Piili has more than 24 years’ experience in laser materials processing and more than 17 years’ experience in additive manufacturing (AM) and 3D printing (3DP). Piili has worked in LUT University 2/02-8/21. Piili was professor of Laser Materials Processing and Additive Manufacturing in LUT University in 3/20-8/21. Piili was also working with industrial additive manufacturing at EOS Finland for one year in 2017.
Piili has participated to several academic and industrial projects both national and international connections. She has as well done education and training and development of them in field of laser materials processing and AM3DP more than 24 years’.
Heidi Piili has authored a total of 174 publications, including 44 peer-reviewed journal articles, 6 peer-reviewed review articles, 5 book chapters in research books, 23 peer-reviewed conference proceedings, 61 non-refereed conference proceedings, 18 trade journal articles, 13 published development, research reports or studies, and 4 theses. According to Google Scholar, her research has received approximately 2,906 citations, with an h-index of 25 and an i10-index of 45. Her current Scopus h-index is 19 and Scopus records 1,402 citations for publications authored under the name Heidi Piili .
