From individual technologies to an integrated solution
In manufacturing, time can be lost on repetitive manual tasks and fragmented design processes, while errors may only be detected during commissioning. Every wasted hour ultimately affects a company’s bottom line.
In machine building, for example, standardised and modular solutions combined with artificial intelligence can significantly improve design efficiency. With a digital twin, a machine’s operation can be tested before the physical machine is built, allowing problems to be identified earlier and a functioning product to reach the customer faster.
– I believe Finnish companies still have a great deal of untapped potential when it comes to optimising the entire process. If only one area is developed at a time, the full benefits that could be achieved across the entire chain may never be realised, Uotila says.
The goal: cutting automation design time in half
At Alihankinta, Siemens aims to meet a broad range of industrial companies and partners, particularly machine builders as well as business, product development and automation leaders.
At the trade fair, Siemens will launch
a pioneering project for machine builders, in which one or two companies selected through an application process will get the opportunity to put the latest technologies for more efficient automation design into practice. Siemens will provide the technology and experts needed for the project.
The aim is to demonstrate how much time can be saved in machine design by combining Siemens’ integrated solutions with AI applications.
– We want to demonstrate in practice what our technology can achieve. If the time spent on automation design can, for example, be cut in half, that already represents a significant competitive advantage for a machine builder, Uotila says.
Solutions start with business needs
According to Uotila, companies do not need to adopt new technologies everywhere at once.
– The starting point is to identify where unnecessary time or money is being spent in the design and manufacturing process, where errors occur or where quality suffers. From there, we can assess what kind of solution would deliver the greatest benefit at that particular point.
Siemens can support companies throughout their development journey, from design tools and automation solutions to commissioning and maintenance. For machine builders targeting international markets, Siemens also provides support related to Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) requirements. With Siemens’ software, automation and motion control solutions, these considerations can be integrated into the overall process from the design stage onwards.
